For Chileans and foreign residents, the number is the same, but a non-resident without a visa can only obtain a RUT, which is exactly what is needed to buy property, invest, or register a business activity.

No. The application is submitted in Chile using a power of attorney. We handle that for you, and your RUT is delivered electronically once issued, so the whole process can be completed while you stay in your home country. We can of course do it in a few days upon your arrival if you prefer.

Once the power of attorney is signed and the documents are complete, the tax service typically issues the RUT within 2 to 3 weeks. These are observed averages, and the exact timing depends on the tax service's workload.
