Buying a car is hard enough. Buying one in a foreign country is a trap waiting to happen.

You don't know what a fair price is, and some sellers do raise it the moment they hear a foreign accent. Used cars can hide mechanical damage from rough roads, unpaid fines, or a bank restriction that quietly blocks the transfer, and every contract, certificate, and notary appointment is in Spanish. One missed check and you could pay for a car that is never legally yours. We handle the search, the inspection, the negotiation, and the paperwork, so you end up with the right car, at the right price, registered in your name.

This service is for you if

You just arrived in Chile and need a car, but you don't know the local market or what a fair price looks like

You don't speak Spanish well enough to negotiate with sellers, dealers, or notaries with confidence

You are worried about hidden defects, unpaid fines, or debts attached to a used car

You are short on time and want the inspection, contract, and registration transfer handled for you

What we handle for you

One point of contact from the first shortlist to the padrón in your name.

01

Search & shortlist

We start from your needs and budget, then bring you a shortlist of vehicles at fair market prices.

  • Review of your vehicle requirements: usage, budget, new or used, and what makes sense for Chilean roads
  • Market price benchmarks, so you know what each model is really worth before any conversation with a seller
  • A shortlist of candidate vehicles from reliable channels: dealers and trusted listings
  • Honest guidance on new versus used, since used cars in Chile are not always the bargain they appear to be
02

Inspection, checks & negotiation

Before any money changes hands, we make sure the car and its papers are exactly what the seller claims.

  • A mechanical inspection arranged at a garage, so hidden defects surface before you commit
  • Full document review: ownership title, circulation permit, technical control, insurance, and vehicle history
  • Verification that no unpaid fines, tolls, or ownership restrictions are attached to the vehicle
  • Negotiation handled on your behalf, so the price reflects the market and not your accent
03

Purchase paperwork & registration

We take care of the transfer of ownership so the car ends up legally in your name. If you have already found a car, we can also only take care of the transfer part

  • Temporary RUT guidance if you don't have a Chilean ID card yet, since a RUT is required to buy a car
  • The purchase contract and transfer prepared and coordinated with the notary or civil register
  • The registration transfer followed up until the padrón is issued in your name
  • Guidance on the mandatory SOAP insurance and the yearly documents that keep your car legal to drive

Buying a car in Chile

Yes. A RUT is required to purchase a vehicle in Chile. If you don't have a Chilean ID card yet, a temporary RUT from the tax authority (SII) is sufficient, and we can guide you through obtaining it (see the non-resident RUT service).

Yes. You can complete the purchase with your passport and a temporary RUT, even if your visa is still in progress or you are in Chile as a tourist. We make sure the documents are prepared accordingly.

It depends on your budget and how long you plan to keep the car. In Chile, used car prices are tied more to the vehicle's age than to its mileage, and road conditions outside the main highways wear cars down quickly, so used cars are not always the bargain they appear to be. Vehicles over eight years old also face traffic restrictions during winter in Santiago and some other cities. We help you weigh these factors for your situation.

Working with us

It depends. A transfer done directly at the civil register is typically registered immediately, and you receive the padrón in your name on the spot. A transfer through a notarized purchase contract typically takes a few weeks before the padrón is available, although you can drive the car legally in the meantime.

The search, document checks, negotiation, and paperwork coordination can be handled wherever you are in Chile. For the physical steps, such as the inspection and the signing, we organize everything around the vehicle's location and your own, and tell you upfront exactly what your presence is needed for.

No. We handle the conversations with sellers, garages, insurers, and notaries in Spanish, and explain everything to you in plain English. When your signature or presence is required, we inform you in advance so there are no surprises.
