Where is Las Condes in Santiago?
Las Condes is the largest city (comuna) of the Santiago region (and it was even larger when it was created, encompassing until the 40s the cities of Vitacura and Lo Barnechea). The city is safe overall. The main problem (like in all upper-class cities) is more robbery (house or car) rather than physical aggressions.

As the city is very big, it would be useless to do a general description. Click on each neighborhood below to see the main areas where expats live:
San Damián, Quinchamalí and San Carlos de Apoquindo
Higher up the comuna, past the end of the metro line, lies the upper eastern part of Las Condes: San Damián, Quinchamalí and San Carlos de Apoquindo. The property style is very similar across the three, so we present them together. This is a family-residential area: larger houses, gated communities and low-rise condominium buildings with gardens, on quiet streets with very little commerce. The main points of reference are the San Carlos de Apoquindo sports facilities and the clinic of the same name.
Count on being car-dependent. The metro does not reach this part of Las Condes, so the daily commute to the business district or the school run means driving. Yes, for most expats it is one of the default choices. The comuna is safe overall, hosts the main business district, and is well connected by metro line 1. The main risk is robbery rather than physical aggression, as in all upper-class comunas. How does Las Condes compare to Santiago?
Las Condes is one of the comunas of Greater Santiago, in the north-east of the city. Compared with Santiago Centro, it is more residential, safer and more expensive, with newer buildings and most of the corporate offices. If your budget is tight, Santiago Centro or Ñuñoa offer cheaper rents. If you want comfort and proximity to the business district, Las Condes wins.
Can you live on $1000 a month in Chile?
